Irene VIII is a 16.5m International Ten Metre Class yacht, built by Anker and Jensen, Norway in 1935.

Irene VIII is back in La Ciotat in 2009 to replace the mast and install a new rigging. General maintenance is done in the meantime.

Irene arrived for the first time at Classic Works in April 2006 with a broken chainplate and obvious problems in the area of her steel mast step.

Once hauled out it was evident that her steel framing with galvanized steel bolts through the mahogany planking was fairly tired and the decision was taken to completely refasten her below the waterline.

In order to achieve this a large percentage of her interior was removed plus all the copper sheathing on her hull.

Extensive repairs were carried out to the galvanized steel floors, the frames and the mast step and then new epoxy-painted galvanized bolts were installed. Each one of these was set up on a nylon insulating washer to avoid the previous problems caused by electrolysis.

The hull was then splined and caulked as required and after re-launching Irene proved during sea trials off La Ciotat that she will be hard to beat once back on the race course.
